The destination

Wales packs castles, coast and mountain into a country smaller than most visitors expect. Conwy, Caernarfon, Harlech and Pembroke are among the best-preserved medieval castles in Britain; the Pembrokeshire Coast is a national park built almost entirely around its shoreline; the Gower peninsula was the UK's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; and the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) and Eryri (Snowdonia) national parks hold the highest ground in southern Britain and in Wales.

Cardiff and Snowdonia have their own pages on this site, so this one collects the rest of the country: Pembrokeshire, the Gower, the Brecon Beacons, mid-Wales and the border counties along the English edge. Many registrars offer ceremonies in Welsh or bilingually, which some couples choose for family reasons. Late spring and early autumn give the most settled weather, and coastal and hill venues are best booked well ahead for summer dates.
