The Dickens Inn

The Dickens Inn is positioned on Marble Quay within St Katherine's Docks in East London. The building dates to the early 1700s as a tea factory or brewery, and was later converted to a tavern with sawdust floors and candlelit balcony dining. It was physically moved 70 metres eastward to accommodate new housing development. During reconstruction, the original timbers and ironwork were retained and the building was reassembled as a three-storey inn reflecting eighteenth-century design. The venue opened in May 1976, opened by the grandson of Charles Dickens. The function suite comprises a light, contemporary finished space with substantial ceilings, wooden beams and large windows admitting natural daylight. The combination of historic fabric and contemporary presentation suits couples seeking a venue with documented heritage.
